Conference on the Financial Consequences of the COVID-19 Pandemic

The Journal of Finance and the Fama-Miller Center for Research in Finance at University of Chicago Booth School of Business are organizing a conference on the financial consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic. The conference will be held by videoconference in five daily two-hour sessions from October 12 to 16, 2020.

In early March 2020, the World Health Organization declared the novel coronavirus COVID-19 outbreak a global pandemic. Not only has it resulted in a global public health crisis, but it has also had very large negative impact on economic activity. In response, governments around the world have taken various steps to mitigate the adverse health and economic effects.

The goal of this conference is to bring together economists from academia and policy-making institutions to discuss research papers that shed light on the economic effects of the pandemic on corporate, household, financial, and government sectors and on the policy responses to the crisis. All editors of the Journal of Finance will be present at the conference.

Paper Submission

Manuscripts may be submitted no later than September 15, 2020, Noon CDT. To submit a paper, please click here

A committee of the editors (Philip BondStefan NagelAmit Seru and Wei Xiong) and associate editors of the Journal of Finance will select the conference papers from the submissions. The results of the selection process will be announced by the end of September 2020. The online nature of the conference allows for a tight window between submissions, selection, and conference, which should allow the conference to include the most timely research on the topic.
