Sad News: Hans Stoll Passes Away

Hans Stoll, AFA Fellow and Past President (1999), passed away on March 20th at the age of 80. 

Hans joined the Vanderbilt Graduate School of Management in 1980, after a distinguished tenure at The Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania where he had been a faculty member since 1966.  Hans built the finance group at Owen, hiring many faculty members over his 30+ years leading the group.  He founded the Financial Markets Research Center in 1987, Owen’s first research center that today has an international reputation.  Hans was born in Germany and went on to receive an A.B. degree from Swarthmore College in 1961 and M.B.A. and Ph.D. degrees from the Graduate School of Business of the University of Chicago in 1963 and 1966, respectively.

AFA Annual Meeting 2021 Paper Submissions -NOW CLOSED

The paper submission site for the 2021 American Finance Association annual meeting is now closed. Papers were to be submitted through Conference Maker before Monday, March 16 at 3:00pm EST.

There is no paper submission fee, but please note that (1) the submitting author must be an AFA member for the paper to be considered and (2) each individual may only submit one paper (although they can be a coauthor on other submitted papers).

NOTE: AFA Membership status will be verified at the time of paper submission. You will need your AFA membership number to complete your submission. Please see additional information on the Annual Meeting page of this website.

AFA Ombuds

The Executive Committee of the AFA is pleased to announce the position of AFA Ombudsperson (Ombuds).  The position will be held by Francine Montemurro, who has over 20 years’ experience as a practicing Ombuds. Francine can be reached at ombuds@afajof.org. Learn more about the AFA Ombuds here.

Jonathan E. Ingersoll is Selected as New AFA Fellow

The AFA announced the selection of Jon Ingersoll as a member of the AFA Society of Fellows at the annual meeting in San Diego. Jonathan E. Ingersoll Jr. is the Adrian C. Israel Professor Emeritus of International Trade and Finance at the Yale School of Management.  Professor Ingersoll specializes in multiperiod models of asset valuation, including the pricing of options and futures, and the term structure of interest rates. A member of the founding committee of the Society for Financial Studies, he has served as the editor of its Review of Financial Studies as well as associate editor of the Journal of Finance and the Journal of Financial Economics. He is currently an associate editor of the Review of Derivatives Research. Prior to Yale, Professor Ingersoll was at the Graduate School of Business of the University of Chicago.
